LAN (Local Area Network)

LAN (Local Area Network)

LAN used to connect personal computers and workstations in a company that uses the equipment together and exchange information. In general, a LAN is owned by a company without any other intervention, such as telecommunication networks.

LAN used to connect nodes that are in areas not too far away as in a building or buildings with a maximum radius of 10 kilometers.
In general LAN data transfer speed is very high, eg 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps and some even up to 1000 Mbps.

LAN topology

Topology describes how to connect computers in a network.

Physical topology describes the actual layout of the hardware topology of the network while the logic describe the behavior of computers in the network from the viewpoint of the operator.

Physical topologies include: BUS, STAR and RING.

BUS topology is common in the LAN topology. The main cable connects each node to a single channel computer that accesses the tip with the tip.

In STAR topology a central terminal acts as a regulator and controller of all data communications. All controls in totpologi STAR concentrated at one point called the primary stations and other terminals as a secondary station.

RING topology is similar to the BUS topology, only the tip of this topology is connected with the other end to resemble a circle.

Local Area Network

Commonly abbreviated as Local Area Network LAN is a computer network whose network covers only a small area, such as campus computer networks, buildings, offices, in homes, schools or smaller. Today, most LAN technology based on IEEE 802.3 Ethernet switch using the device, which has a data transfer speed 10, 100, or 1000 Mbit / s. In addition to Ethernet technology, the current 802.11b technology (or so-called Wi-Fi) is also often used to form the LAN. Places that provide LAN connectivity with Wi-Fi technology called hotspots.

On a LAN, each node or computer has its own computing power, in contrast to the concept of terminal dump. Each computer can also access resources on the LAN in accordance with the permissions that have been set. These resources can be data or devices such as printers. On a LAN, a user can also communicate with other users by using the appropriate application.

In contrast to Wide Area Networks or Wide Area Network (WAN), the LAN has the following characteristics:

Having rapidly higher data
Covers a narrower geographical region
Does not require telecommunications lines leased from telecom operators

Usually one of the computers on the network computer will be used to manage all servers in the network system.

WAN

WAN is short for the term information technology in English: Wide Area Network is a computer network covering a large area as an example of a computer network between regions, cities or even countries, or can be defined as well as computer networks require routers and public communication channels.

WANs are used to connect a local network with other local networks, so users or computers in one location can communicate with users and computers in other locations.

MAN
Metropolitan area network or abbreviated to MAN. A network in a city with high speed data transfer, which connects various locations such as campuses, offices, government, and so on.
